Open Question: Have a question about housing codes and permits?
My sister and her family lost their home in Hurricane Ike. They are now living in a FEMA mobile home until they can get all of the repairs done to their house. Insurance did not cover all of the repairs needed so most of their expense is coming out of their pocket so it is going to take a few more months before the house is ready to live in again. FEMA asked my sister and her husband if they wanted to buy the mobile home because they ar ein the process of selling them. OF course she said yes and then it will become my sisters mobile home. The problem is this. They are going to need the mobile home about another 5 more months so they can finish up with repairs to the house but once they buy the FEMA mobile home, the permit for mobile home expires. Do you think it will be hard to get a permit to keep the mobile home in city limits whil they finish working on the house? After they finish working on the house, they are going to buy some land and move the home on land but as of now they have no land to put it on. FEMA told them they could buy it for $3000 because they usually scrap the mobile homes that people don’t want. Do you think there will be a problem getting another permit while thy finish re-building their house?
Its going to cost about $3000 to move the mobile home. If they pay $3000 to put it in a mobile home park and then 5 months from now, they have to pay another $3000 to move it again to their land. They only need the mobile home for 5 more months while they finish up the last bit of repairs.
