Resolved Question: statistics homework help?
June and Joan are residents of Smalltown. They know that insurance companies increase the price of homeowner’s insurance if homes are, on average, more than 5 miles from the nearest fire station. Their insurance company reports that in Smalltown, the average is more than 5, but they think this is incorrect. June takes a random sample of 50 homes in the area, and gets an average of 4.7 with a standard deviation of 1.5. She reports that the result is not significant, and so the mean distance is 5 miles. Joan takes a random sample of 150 homes in the areas, and also gets an average of 4.7 miles with a standard deviation of 1.5. She reports that the result is significant and the mean is less than 5.

b) One of the two has made a mistake in their statement of the conclusion. Who is it, and what is the correct statement?
