Voting Question: My parents don’t like my new career, WHY?
So recently I decided to switch careers since being a Human Resources coordinator was not very much fun. Sure it paid six figures and I had health insurance and dental, and blah blah blah, but I was bored in the first month, so I quit. (I’m 28, by the way)

I broke the news to my family that I want to be a starving artist. Now, mind you- this means I work on my art- which is painting the street scenes by my neighborhood- and also learning the trade of narcotics- If I want to survive the streets, I have to be able to do something that isn’t 9-5, ya know what I mean?

I told my parents I needed a $20,000 loan until I sell my first painting. They FLAT OUT refused, telling me I was stupid for quitting my other job until finding something that paid the bills! I argued that I was bored at work, and I needed to find myself spiritually. Being an artist allows me to flourish my creativity. Also, since I am an artist I broke the lease to my condo and will now be crashing at my parents house until I can afford a loft- they’re REALLY expensive, by the way! I went thrift store shopping and got some really super jeans with paint stains on them- for only five bucks! That’s a huge bargain, and clothes I need to be wearing. If I’m an artist, I need to make a statement. I got rid of all my designer clothes that cost thousands because I didn’t need them anymore. I also started blasting my music loud at night (to my parents distaste) because this way I’m living a hardcore experience.

Okay so why are my parents flipping? They supported my wacko of a sister, who is – GET THIS- a boring *** librarian who makes $60,000 a year only because she’s been doing it for years! What a bore of a job. My job is much more fun. I get to stay up late, drink beer with my artist friends (many homeless), and paint on the walls of my home, all while eating at my parents.

When I sell my work, I’ll pay my parents back (MAYBE- since now they’re being a little unreasonable!) Thoughts?

For people telling me this is not true, who are you to tell me I’m lying? Please just don’t judge and answer me!
