Resolved Question: Insurance Claim – is it worth it?
I lost a digital camera on a bus in France during a trip. It’s only £65+SD card £5+Battery £5 and is supposed to be covered by the travel insurance. I don’t know if it’s worth claiming it. Will it change my no claim status not just for the travel insurance, but to all other insurances e.g. house contents etc? Has anyone got some experience in this matter? Please advise whether the hassle is worth-a-while. Thank you in advance.
Voting Question: Where is the money donated to charities for the Victorian bushfire going?
I don’t want to negative here, obviously this has been a terrible tragedy and really destroyed some communities, and i don’t want to play that down, it’s terrible what happened, my heart goes out to all of the victims, and a great big thanks to all of the volunteers who have helped and saved people during this tragic event.
But i was thinking, why should we donate?? Where is all the donated money going??
Peoples house and contents insurance should cover replacing, well, houses and contents, and provide immediate money for necesseties, temporary accomodation etc. People’s income protection insurance should cover loss of income until they can get back to work. The government/councils etc will replace community infrastructure. Sporting facilities etc would be insured, and come under the councils umbrella. So why do these communities need our donations?? I know many charities are doing good work feeding victims and volunteers etc, but this isn’t going to cost $100m or whatever they’ve raised now. I would hate to think those that are uninsured may receive more than those insured, that wouldn’t be fair.
There are many house fires during the year, and many people lose everything, and sometimes tragically, family members, but they don’t have appeals for every one of these people, they are covered by their insurance. These people don’t get these one off payments they announced the other night. It doesn’t seem fair does it??
I was just curious, that’s all, so please don’t flame me, i’m hoping to hear about many positive reasons why a person should donate, great things that are happening with the money. I know people feel that donating money is all they can do, and do it to feel good about themselves, but I would like to know where the money is going before i donate my hard earned.
Thanks for your answers.
Open Question: Landlord withholding return of deposit? UK?
We have been living in our rented house for 2 1/2 years and are due to move in 2 weeks due to our growing family.
Befor xmas our landlord replaced our gas oven with an electrical one which is free standing and not attatched to the wall, i mentioned i was unhappy as our 19month old could easily turn the hobs on. This was never rectified and then on saturday the worse happened, my son turned the oven on without us noticing and within 5 min it had caught on fire (was t Towel left on top) causing extensive damage to the kitchen. The electrical smoke alarm did not go off so we were lucky happened through day and were in the house. Anyway the Landlord says that we will have to live for 3 weeks with the damaged kitchen (no oven, microwwave destroyed) we have 2 small children and i am pregnant! Also he does not want to claim on his property owners isurance as will loose claims free so we will have to loose our deposit.
I am unhappy with this as we have been perfect tennants. In the time we have lived at property we havew lost freezer contents 4 times due to a fault in the electrics, my daughter was almost hurt when the plaster fell in in the from the cieling in the lounge and we were without heating or an oven for 12 weeks before xmas!!!!
Do we have to stand for this or can we insist that he claims, after all surley our rent covers insurance premiums?
excuse me but these things happen and i had already told the landlord the oven was unsafe. How dare you be condesending about my parenting?
