Voting Question: Single dad needs help – Family Law?
Complicated situation, I’ll sum up as best as possible. I’ve been split up with my daughter’s mother since she was 1. She’s about to turn 5. In that time, I’ve had my daughter with me 50% of the time. 3.5 days each week. 4 nights slept at my house. I make around 25000 a year, so I’m not wealthy by any standards. I can’t afford a lawyer. Things were fine for quite some time. Then I got a letter from the department of revenue saying I was going to court for child support because my ex was collecting food stamps. I should now point out that she lives with her boyfriend in a 3 bedroom house. He makes in excess of 60000 a year. They do not need money. She assured me we would work it out. We went to court, she stated she didn’t want support, and that I had my daughter half the time, so there was no reason to collect it. The courts asked if I wanted a paternity test, which I agreed to. I only agreed for my peace of mind, had she not been my daughter, I still would have cared for her, but I would have been free of financial responsibility that her mom could use to take advantage of me. Her mother cheated on me, or I never would have said yes to the test. She understood that. Well, the test was positive 
, and when we went back to court for the follow-up, her mother was mad at me. She had approached me about getting back together, and I declined, which made her very angry. She decided to collect support. The court ordered me to pay $340 a month. I can barely afford my bills as it is! Now, I can’t even afford to see my daughter. She lives an hour away, and my car is a wreck, and her mom refuses to do ANY of the driving. So to sum up, she doesn’t need the money, I’m providing health insurance, she has no job, and lets her boyfriend claim my daughter on his tax return, they have a 3 bedroom home and $65000 truck, I have a wreck of a car, and I can’t afford all this support and still be able to see my daughter. The money isn’t such a problem, I just want to see my daughter. I need legal help, but can’t afford a lawyer and can’t accept that without money I am really that screwed that there is no possibilities. If I could even just make it so she is required to drive my daughter to my apartment and pick up up each weekend, that would be enough, I’ll keep paying if I must. (I’d rather not of course, because I want to be able to get an apartment with a second bedroom for my daughter to sleep in, and be able to feed and clothe her properly). What can I do? Every lawyer I’ve spoken with wants like $5000 just to get the ball rolling! I live in Florida, if that matters. I’m a good father, she is completely a daddy’s girl. I just don’t think I can handle another phone call where my daughter cries herself to sleep because she can’t understand why daddy can’t afford gas to come pick her up. Help me please. Any information you need to help, let me know. If it’ll help, I’ll give you any information I can.
Answerer #1: I’m a legal idiot, any ideas on where to start with any of those things? I wouldn’t have a clue even how to start…
Answerer #2: I’ll check out that website immediately, thank you. And I did find out that he can’t claim my daughter, but he did regardless, and I’m not sure what to do about it, cause I can’t claim her either, I fell a few days short of the 50% mark you have to hit to claim, so I’m not sure what to do about it.
Answerer #3: The judge didn’t seem to care about how much I’d had my daughter for the last years, because at the time we hit court I was laid off and for about 2 weeks I had only had her on the weekends until I got back on my feet. Apparently, that was enough for the judge to decide it was necessary for me to not share custody and instead pay child support. Apparently the money is more important than the child seeing her father to the courts. He did calculate our incomes, but apparently $340 is the baseline in Florida.
Missed that last part answerer #3, for the last four years, we have been splitting the driving. Things were fine before I told her we can’t get back together, now she’s out to hurt me, and she knows the best way is through my daughter.
Voting Question: My mom gives 1000 dollars to the church, then always complain she is struggling and am 21 and need to help?
My mother is a nurse so they are not in recession job wise.
We live in a lower area…if you know what I mean…meaning I want to lose weight, but afraid to exercise out doors people are nice, but the area freaks me out. She says God tells her to give this and that amount…………….she is working over time so she can give 2000 dollars next sunday and she knows am in dept medical bill wise,two credit card wise, and I don’t have insurance, nor is there much food in the house only foods for my 3 year old sister. My 15 year old sister hates the area…..yet my mom smiles and thinks me disliking her and the church is funny. Me and her got in it this morning because she says I need to find a job…………..I have been searching for over 5 months and if I did find a job I don’t want to help her bill wise because she has money coming yet throws it away. I am now 100 percent turned off by church and were all being forced to go!!!!!!!!!! I went last Sunday and had to make sure I fought back………….the pastor who was praying over me hit me hard in the head trying to make me fall out!!! Punched my mom in the stomach twice and had to explain thats how God wants her to pray. I told my mom am serious the first time she punches me in the gut am calling the police….my mom laughed, but I wasn’t joking. I live in Florida and everywhere I ask no one is hiring!!! I just need a job to pay off my late bills and to save up to move out of state.
What should I do? Am lost and angry, upset ect.

Everytime she brings up I need to find a job to help with the bills I bring up that 1000 dollars!! She gets angry and starts yelling at me.
Um…were in recession………..I have been looking for a job here in Florida for over 5 months.
I agree home first, God teaches use wisdom….last year my mom almost cried because we didn’t have money to buy bread….which was a dollar something because she gave it all to this other church.

When I was 13 I cried in church because the pastor said give her 500 dollars and God would bless you. My child hood years were sad.
Someday when I adopt or have kids whatever comes first I will let them search for themselves………I used to be a strict Christian, but…

I don’t want to make this a long note so I will get down to the facts
She left me for another man 5 years ago.
She left me with 2 kids.
I never got any child support from her.
we sold the house and split it half and half.
I kept her on my work health insurance all this time.
She has a job.
I have a job.
She just bought a house.
I rent a house for the kids and I. the kids are in college but still living with me.
I want to get a divorce, it’s been a long time coming and I should have done it sooner. She said her work doesn’t offer health insurance and she said FL law said even if we do get a divorce I still have to provide her with health insurance.
Is this right? We have been living apart for 5 years.
If it’s true that I have to provide insurance for her, than can I go after half of her house? We are still married. Please help.
