Before the axe fell a few months ago I worked as an Office Manager for a nice employer. They eliminated my position and gave my assignments to a variety of people.
Anyway, I made about $50k a year and this allowed me to get the State Maximum about $400 a week. I can also make some money on the side doing odd jobs for cash and know a number of people who want their homes cleaned, dogs walked, papers written, resumes typed, etc. So, after working all kinds of odd jobs maybe 15 hours a week, I am making about 80% of my previous salary.
They tell me that I can collect unemployment insurance for almost a year because of all the Federal and State extensions. I get health coverage though my husband.
It seems almost pleasant. I do not miss having to wake up at 5 AM and fighting traffic and putting in all the overtime and fighting office politics.
Isn’t this unemployment insurance lifestyle maybe to good of gig?
(Please if you hate being unemployed and want to moan and groan about how you only make $200 a week in unemployment, well… I am just saying that some people like me are really enjoying what is basically a paid vacation thanks to the taxpayers)
