Resolved Question: Maternity Leave Help?
I am going into my 8th month of pregnancy and am starting to prepare all the minor and major details for my maternity leave and how to leave my office prepared for it. I’m currently the office manager to a medium sized architectural co. I deal with everyones registrations, memberships, AIA credentials, shipping, labels, etc. Everything thats not autocad.
I’ve been working for this co. for 2 years as of the end of march/april, which is also my due date.
I am taking 2 wks paid (bc that is all that they are offering me) and 12 wks unpaid. HOWEVER, I intend to go back to school in May for my degree in nursing. My employer does not know this yet, though they do know I intend to further my education. My class schedule is different and changes every 15 wks, which is a new semester. Classes start in May and I expect this baby to be born in early to mid march if not late february (though we all know how babies can be!) The problem with the school and my work is that work is 8-5 and school hours are anytime between 8-5 with 25-30 hrs a week. Doesn’t leave much for full time work. Only a part time schedule, if that.
I don’t get my exact schedule until late march, which by then I expect to have my baby and be on maternity leave. I have my fill in who happens to be my best friend and in law school who intends to share a part time schedule with me or just take over completely should I choose to officially quit…
I guess my question is to secure my position at my company and allow them to consider me part time, what should be done in preparation for my leave? Besides having a list of login-ins and passwords and making sure the office has a good amount of inventory, and updating job lists… what else can I do??? With the whole school thing, its guaranteed, I’ve postpones school for two years because of this job, so should I bring this up BEFORE I leave, in a memo, an email…. what? I’m just overly confused with this. I really do not like this job, as being the office manager everyone sh*ts on you, but the pay is pretty good as is the insurance, however my husband is opening up his own business and will get insurance through him…
Really I want to work in a medical field and use my medical assisting certification until I can be a RN… plus with a new baby, I AM really looking for just part time hours with school already taking up most of my time…
I hope I wasn’t blabbering… but anywords of wisdom or advice?
So the basics,
What can I do to prepare my fill in and company for my leave?
Should I just call it quits and find a flexible job that will allow me to go to school and be a mom to my newest daughter, WITHOUT burning any bridges.
Ideally I would just go to school, call it quits for a few months and find a job at a nursing home doing what I love, whilst giving me the time to care for my newborn and 3 year old….
Help. PLEASE!
Resolved Question: Homeowner’s insurance claim – do you have to replace exact items?
I am working on creating a home inventory for homeowner’s insurance purposes (I have replacement value coverage). I have some things that I wouldn’t replace…I would rather use the money to purchase something else. For example; I wouldn’t replace a Playstation 2 game; I would rather use the money toward a Playstation 3 game. So, if I were to have a loss; would the insurance company just give me a check for the value of the PS2 game, or would I have to go out and actually purchase the same game and then send the receipt to the insurance company for reimbursement? I know I should probably just call the insurance company with my questions; but I’m just looking for some general info. Thanks!
