Open Question: What is my liability for a friend who was injured on my property.?
A friend was doing a favor checking something out on my roof while I was away. He fell off the ladder and was injured.(I found out he had been drinking) I called the ambulance and he was hospitalized for a few weeks with broken ribs, surgeries etc. He does not have any health insurance and no monetary assets. He spoke with medical assistance (in PA) regarding his medical bills and they want me to sign a form regarding my homeowners insurance.
I am concerned wether the hospital or state medical assistance would try to go after me for his medical bills.(probably an astronomical figure) My homeowners insurance policy (Erie) says $100,000 personal liability for medical each occurance. His bills may be way more than that.
I didn’t file any insurance claim or contact my homeowners ins. about this (happened about a month ago). What should I do. I know my friend would not try to sue me but what about the hospital or medical assistance.? Thanks for any information.
Open Question: My homeowners insurance denied me for an unseen leak?
We had a leak in our upstairs bathroom behind the wall. We called our homeowner’s insurance, who sent a leak detector. The leak detector said that the leak had been probably going on for 6-8 weeks. It was behind the wall where we could not see it. It has leaked under the tub, and into the ceiling in the room below. The insurance adjuster said that they probably won’t cover it, because our policy says it will cover a leak up to 4 weeks. Really? I can’t see it, so it’s not a negligence. My dad told me that most insurance adjusters will deny the claim hoping you go away. If I can’t see the leak, because it is behind the wall, how am I supposed to know it is there within three weeks, six days and 23 hours? Isn’t this unreasonable? Do I have a legitimate case for a lawsuit?
Open Question: Homeowners insurance agents please help! Mold on water damage questions.?
We had to have an emergency restoration team come out to our home yesterday for water damage from our dishwasher… State farm agent said the cleanup and repair were covered other than the deductible. As the floor was being pulled up, mold was discovered all over the water damaged area. It’s wet, and not spreading, but they have to do a total pullup of the cabinets and floors, and replace. A mold remediation is what they called it. I do not have mold coverage, but with the mold being on all of the water damaged surfaces, can we just submit it as a water damage claim? How do I go about getting it taken care of without total denial? Help!
In its role, ABN Amro essentially agreed to pay off bets on the mortgage investments linked to Abacus in the event hard-pressed homeowners defaulted on their mortgages and the investments declined in value. In return, the bank would collect its $7 million.
But, almost from the start, Abacus began to fall apart. More than 80 percent of the mortgage securities behind the deal were soon downgraded as the crisis in the housing market spread. Goldman itself claims that it lost about $100 million on the deal.
Some inside ABN Amro were leery of Abacus early on. Indeed, several traders there immediately bought credit default swaps — insurance-like instruments — from Goldman Sachs to hedge their exposure to ACA.
