Resolved Question: Will homeowners insurance cover damage to my attic caused by snow?
So much snow piled up on my roof that several of the 2″x6″ beams that run diagonally vertical toward the apex cracked. The weight of the snow apparently was too much. I’m concerned that now that about 6 have cracked, more weight is being carried by the ones that have not cracked (yet) and that I could end up with substantial damage to the roof and/or attic.

My question (finally) is…is that damage covered by my homeowners insurance? What should I check for on my policy to find out? My agent is on holiday vacation and won’t be back in his office for another two weeks.

Thank you very much for taking a minute!

Resolved Question: Will my homeowners insurance pay me WHEN my garage falls down?
I purchased a house with a detached garage, got insurance through Liberty Mutual, which included $22,000 for the garage itself. No one ever came out to look at my house or garage to see the condition, but the garage is very unstable (roof, etc) and is only on the dirt, not on a cement slab. I am certain the garage will cave in or fall over (it is leaning away from the road as well), so I am wondering if they will cover it when it does. I have owned the house for 6 months. Ideally I would love to get the cash and build a whole new garage of my own with the money, closer to the house, so I am not worried about it falling down as I have nothing in there of value.

Thanks in advance.

By the way, I am by no means trying to rip off my insurance company. I am trying to gain insight as to what will happen if I just let it fall down, versus trying to fix it up. I would rather get opinions on here first, as opposed to calling my agent up and being “flagged,” etc.

Thanks in advance.

Voting Question: What are homeowners insurance companies required to pay?
We had ice storm and lost all our food in deep freeze, 2 refrigerator freezers and some stuff out of fridge. Insurance company says they will only give us $500. That won’t pay for all we lost. What about trees that were uprooted and clean up of those trees? They won’t pay anything on that. Tree hit Satellite on our roof, they won’t pay for that. Satellite company is charging us $50 to come fix it. I just want to make sure they are being legit. I know they try to get out of paying for things. Thanks!
We did put everything outside, power was out 6 days. We filled our 2 coolers, but one day it got up to 41 and 60 another.
