Open Question: How much is basic basic basic insurance going to cost me? First time car buyer, first time driver, etc?
I’m 18, I’ve never owned a car, credit, insurance or anything.

I’ve been living on my own for the last 6 months (moved out of parents house) and finally have enough to buy a car. However, I somehow was quoted $712/mo @ Allstate (online), and I’m definitely not paying that much for a car that’s only worth just under $1,500… that’s insane. I’d rather walk then pay that crap.

What do you suggest I do to get a lot lower insurance rate ($150~ and under a month, 200 tops)?

If it’s oddly possible or somewhat rare of a possibility to get those rates in my condition, then I’m just going to get a motorcycle. I got quoted $124/mo for insurance on a 600cc. I want one more anyway.

Somewhat sidetracked but, back to the question.

How can I lower that?
My mom said she might switch to Nationwide, since she lives in another state, and register my vehicle in her name so I can get the price she pays ($89/mo)…

Open Question: Insurance question, how to prove I’ve been at my house for over 1 year?
I got coverage with progressive, but they do a nice job of making it look cheaper than it really is. They quoted me one price and then after I paid them now they say they need proof I’ve been at my current house for over a year or they will bill me an extra $50. So, how would I go about proving this? Am I expected to keep my mail for a year or something, lol? I was thinking maybe I could photocopy my drivers license? That has my address on it and they could just look at the experiation date on it to deduce that I’ve been their over a year maybe?

Resolved Question: Should I hire a Public Adjuster? Or maybe an Insurance Lawyer?
On March 14th 2009 my home burned. About half of the house was completely destroyed, and the other half was severely smoke and water damaged. The insurance co. started off by playing nice. They put us up in a rental house, got us rental furniture and housewares, and even got us a couple thousand dollars for incidentals.

But lately, the adjuster has become impossible to deal with. He takes days to return an e-mail, a week or more to return a phone call, and he is condescending. He gave us the contents forms to fill out to start processing our contents claim, then after about 20 hours of labor on my part to fill it all out, he sends me a 5pm on Friday email saying that it wasn’t done correctly and quoting sections of my policy. This A: doesn’t help me correct it and B: is a slap in the face considering all the work I have already put into it.

Should I get a public adjuster to deal with this? or maybe a lawyer? or just ride it out?
This is the problem; we went over it prior to my filling out the forms, and I completed the form exactly as instructed. The email he sent didn’t explain what was wrong, and this guy wont return a phone call.

I think, I will be visiting my agents office on Monday. I will demand another adjuster be assigned to my claim as this is just the most recent digg this adjuster has made. Between his not cooperating with the contractors, to his not returning phone calls and emails, to his less than professional attitude. I have had it with this guy.
