Resolved Question: How can I solve a Father in law – retirement money issue?
My husband and I have been married for 4 years and have a beautiful 6 month old daughter.

My husband’s father was a dentist until he had an episode with mental illness and alcoholism 15 years ago. This caused his practice to collapse and ended his marriage. He’s been living comfortably off disability payments since then and his mental illness is in reasonable control with the proper medication. There have been some medical scares, but I assume he has some medical insurance at this time. The problem is that he is two years away from “retirement” when the disability payments will end. He has not saved nearly enough for a secure retirement taking into consideration the main expenses: home and medical care.

My husband brought up my FIL’s money situation a couple years ago. He carries the weight of his mother and father’s well-being on his shoulders. At that time he said that we’d probably have to pay his dad’s rent and some expenses someday because his father hasn’t been careful with his money. I ask my husband to ask his father to change his ways, his words fall on deaf ears. In my eyes my FIL has been very irresponsible with the generous disability benefit he’s received over the years. He played the stock market and lost his home to foreclosure 10 years ago. He drives a late model luxury SUV that he doesn’t yet own. He’s taken many fancy vacations over the years. He lives alone, yet he rents in an expensive 3 bed 2 bath home. What little money he’s saved he wants to buy a home so he has someplace to live in his retirement. I ask how he’s going to afford his rent on 1200 of social security, let alone what might happen if he were to develop a medical issue as he ages. He shrugs his shoulders and says he’ll work it out. He’s in a great deal of denial about the precariousness of his future.

At that time my husband brought up bankrolling his father’s lifestyle, I considered it, because he’s family. Two incomes no kids was a comfortable lifestyle for us. That was before I knew the feeling of the responsibility of being a parent myself. I want the very best for my child, for her to have a financially secure and fun life. I also want the opportunity to be a stay at home mom when I have a second child. If my family were to pay my FIL’s rent/expenses I would be locked into working for the foreseeable future… just to pay his rent. It breaks my heart to think I might not have that opportunity.

My parents have carefully saved for their retirement, and were very careful to raise a frugal daughter. My husband’s mother has worked very hard over the last 15 years to put herself in a very good financial situation with far fewer resources than her ex husband. We will only need to give these parents our love and our time, not our money.

I am so angry at my FIL for wasting the last 15 years living frivolously, I can’t look him in the eye. He doesn’t believe that he’ll need our money and he will not listen to me. And I’m angry with my husband for not putting his foot down with his father and his spending and just assuming the way out of the problem is to spend our way out of it. This is the number 1 issue in our marriage and I need help on how to proceed.

Resolved Question: I have to turn in a power point assignment and need help with punctuation.?
This is very important I have to turn it in by mid-night. I need help with my punctuation and what corrections need to be made. Thank you in advance.

1.) Today, I am happy to say that due my faith and determination, I am living my dream. My wife and I just celebrated our 12th anniversary and couldn’t be happier.
Ours sons are in school setting and accomplishing there own goals now. I enjoy my job and no longer resent having to go to work each morning. I have purchased our first home, and we now have health insurance. Now not only do I provide my family with the necessities, but I can afford he extras as well. Our family has the luxury of taking annual vacations, dining out more, and participating in other forms of entertainment. I am now in a better position to “ Keep up with the Joneses”.

2.) In the past five years I have gained a real sense of accomplishment. This all started when I enrolled at CTU and earned a bachelors degree in Business Administration. Once I earned my degree I applied for my dream job at Texas A&M and was hired. I am now the Vice President of Internal Relations for the 12th Man
Foundation at Texas A&M. The income I earn has given me the ability to pay off past debts and purchase our first home. We no longer struggle trying to live the paycheck to paycheck lifestyle. Now we are able to put our extra money into savings, and make investments in our and our sons future.

3.)Because I am a husband and father I must work to provide basic necessities and pay bills. Being the head of a family is a full time job , add on 40+ hours a week
for work and make adjustments for activities of daily living , at the end of each week I find myself short on time and money. This leaves me feeling guilty and a little selfish for taking any extra time or money to use for myself, even if it is for the purpose of eventually providing more for my family. I have been able to combat the financial aspects of this problem by obtaining a Pell Grant. To cope with the lack of time I have with my family I took a lighter course load, and I do my online courses while they sleep. My fear that I lack in both drive and intelligence is due to the fact that this is not my first attempt at college. After graduating high school I attended Hocking College in Nelsonville Ohio. I was working full time and lived at home. I didn’t make time to study and was more interested in going out and having fun with my non college friends . At the end of my freshman year I dropped out with barley passing scores. I honestly thought I could easily make a living without a degree. Now I have so many more legitimate reasons to give up when it gets hard. Instead I am using these same reasons to push through and reach my full potential. The fear that has held me back all these years is failing and disappointing my family. When I fail in life it does not only affect me it affects my family as well. If I make a poor decision my family suffer the repercussions along with me. I also want to be a good example for my sons. This is allot of pressure ,but I also have realized that it is better to try and risk failing than to never try. For me the key to success is never giving up.
The following are the required notes for my presentation. It is suppose to elaborate on my points.

Tumblr E-Pro (BAD CARTRIDGE Remix) by Beck

Oh, hello! Top of the morning and a flash of the hat. Wax mustaches anyone? Freedom fries. Gregorian Chant. Andrew Jackson survived not one, but two duels and an assassination attempt. My dog is staring at me. I’m going to go to work and I’m going to run in like one of those marching band conductors. I need a whistle. It’s warm outside. I read all the news in this morning’s newspaper online last night. In two months I’ll be going to Europe (or Orlando… or nowhere).

My car needs an oil change and new car insurance. I’ve never been whaling, but it’s April. Been to one or two circuses in my life. The Bond girl in the Quantum of Solace drives me nuts. I just want to kiss her, that’s all. Nothing you couldn’t write home about.

Apparently, Diet Coke gives you cancer. What I’m doing I saw in the Sixth Sense. My eyes feel like lead weights, the ones from that Cuba Gooding Jr. scuba diving movie. “I’m sooooooo tired. I haven’t slept a wink.” Ethan Allen. He fought indians in the mountains during the 1830’s along side Andrew Jackson. Andrew Jackson equals “Trail of Tears”. Ethan Allen equals “Pricey Name Brand Luxury Furniture”. Not the kind that’s hand made in Connecticut, the kind that’s like three or four steps up from that build-it-yourself store, but I don’t know much about furniture. Look at me. I’m intriguing! Look at me. Attention. Attention. Build-a-bear.

FriendFeed At least one person isn’t feeling the pinch of the current economic crisis. Saw someone tooling around Hillsboro today in a brand new red Ferrari. You kind of have to question the judgement/morals/taste/tact of someone who’d buy a car like that though in this climate. I was torn when I saw it.
