Ga. residents get crash course in flood insurance (Newsday)
VININGS, Ga. (AP) — David Bush had a sweeping view of the Chattahoochee River from his backyard. And when he returned to his house Tuesday, the surging river was in his front yard, too. But he was fretting for another reason as he paced the banks along his street: He had canceled his flood insurance just a few months ago, frustrated with high costs and hopeful that the river would never reach … read more…
Open Question: How much am I responsible for a dog bite?
I live in Ohio and recently went out of town. I had a friend in my apt building watch my dog while I was gone. She has a dog as well. When I got home she was at work but she left me a key so I could get my dog back. She also asked me if I could let her dog out. I was walking the dog down the street (on a leash) when a man in a wheelchair passed by so I stepped over to let him pass. As he did, the dog lunged at him and bit him on the hand. The ambulance had to come and he needed 16 stitches. Neither I nor the owner have any renter’s insurance and really do not have any way to pay for these damages. I’m not sure how responsible I am just for walking the dog. She gave me no warning that he may snap at people. What should I do?

Open Question: Renter – accidently burn the house, am I responsible?
I rent a house. Supposed that I accidentally burn the house (negligent or otherwise) and for whatever reason, the owner’s home insurance rejects the claim and the owner sues me. Am I liable for the loss? Is there any insurance that can protect me? Is the rental insurance the answer or it’s only cover my own personal belongings (and assume the owner’s home insurance will cover the property damage).
Addition: Re liabilities insurance: if it’s only $100k, it will not be enough to cover the entire house.
NO, I DID NOT PLAN TO COMMIT ARSON!!!!!! CONTRARY TO THE ANSWER OF 1 POST!!!! THIS IS TO PROTECT MY RIGHTS AND LIABILITIES. HOUSE FIRE CAN HAPPEN TO ANYBODY, IT’S JUST BAD LUCK!!!!
When I owned a house (I still own it, but due to relocation to a different state and unable to sell my house even at a loss, I need to rent first, so this situation is new to me) I ALWAYS carry a home insurance, but as I understand it rental insurance will NOT cover the structure itself.
