Resolved Question: Financial aid for college students in Tennessee?
I have a question that’s a little out there. A friend of mine is 18, a senior in high school. She’s also half black (it’s relevent, promise) She has a hard home life, & her parents are telling her to leave their house or be grounded for the rest of her senior year. She makes good grades, & made a 20 on her ACT. She wants to leave & move in with my family, & that’s fine; but her parents have said that if she leaves now she can’t come back or ask for anything. They don’t have the funds to pay her tuition to an in-state college anyways, but she does qualify for the Hope Scholarship because of her grades & scores. We heard that you can’t get it if your under 25 & not on your parents W2. Basically, she wants to know if there is a way for her to be free of her parents – money & insurance wise – now & still be able to afford college. Is there any other scholarships/financial aid for undergraduates who are legally 18? What can she do in this situation? Please help. Thank you.
